The Matian Firm, APC Donates $200,000 to Support Undocumented Immigrants

On September 25, The Matian Firm, APC, in collaboration with the renowned nonprofit organization Bet Tzedek, reaffirmed its commitment to the immigrant community by making a historic donation of $200,000 to support low-income undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles County. This event took place at The Matian Firm, APC’s offices, marking the beginning of a collaboration that will have a significant impact on the lives of thousands of people facing legal and social barriers.

A Commitment to Justice

The collaboration between The Matian Firm, APC and Bet Tzedek reflects the shared mission of both organizations: to fight for justice and equity, especially for the most vulnerable. The Matian Firm, APC’s Immigrant Support Fund, APC, will provide essential resources so that Bet Tzedek can continue offering free legal services to undocumented immigrants, who often lack access to proper representation due to financial barriers.

This fund will allow Bet Tzedek to expand its support in critical areas, such as labor claims, housing issues, and benefits claims. For undocumented immigrants, these issues are complex and, without proper legal assistance, can become insurmountable barriers.

Helping Those Who Need It Most

During the event, Shawn Matian, founder and CEO of The Matian Firm, APC, shared his vision of why this type of support is essential:

“In such a complex world, it’s crucial to simplify things. At the end of the day, we are all human beings, and those who come to this great nation, the United States, do so with the dream of offering their loved ones a better life, both now and in the future. Those who have the ability to help should do so. Our goal is to provide them with hope and the opportunity for a better future.” – Shawn Matian, CEO

Matian, the son of Iranian immigrants, has dedicated his career to defending the rights of immigrants and improving their lives through the justice system. His commitment to the immigrant community is the driving force behind this generous act of solidarity.

For his part, Diego Cartagena, president and CEO of Bet Tzedek, expressed gratitude for The Matian Firm, APC’s gesture and highlighted how this collaboration will help people facing situations of labor abuse, financial scams, or unaccompanied minors who have been mistreated or abandoned. “Donations like those from The Matian Firm, APC help us bring hope and justice to the entire Los Angeles region,” Cartagena noted.

A Legacy of Justice

The event also celebrated Bet Tzedek’s 50th anniversary, an organization that for five decades has been a beacon of justice for the most vulnerable. Founded in the 1970s, Bet Tzedek has grown to become one of the largest legal aid organizations in Los Angeles County, providing services to low-income communities, regardless of their immigration status.

A Call to Action

The Matian Firm, APC and Bet Tzedek invite other law firms and businesses to follow this example, supporting causes that seek to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable communities. “By investing in these causes, companies not only contribute to social justice but also strengthen their own commitment to ethical, community-centered practices,” commented Matian.
